Sid Meier's Antietam - Scenario List Maps
There are 2 "ListMap" graphics for SMA that display the list of scenarios, a map of the battlefield and icons on this battlefield map to indicate forces and their movements plus 4 buttons for "play", "options", "info" & "cancel".
Listmap.pcx is used if the last scenario was fought as the CSA, Listmap2.pcx is used if the last scenario was fought as the USA.

These listmap graphics use their own palette. The standard palette for both looks like this:

The Windows colours plus others could replace the pinks and still be compatible with the standard graphics. The palette of the above graphic includes the Windows colours plus a range of grays. Save this palette and load it into a pcx graphic to make these colours available.
To avoid corruption the palette should be consistent for the listmaps, troop icons & buttons.
The 1st position on each graphic's palette is its background colour - this can be different on different graphics.
The 9th colour is used for the text of the scenario names on the left & the highlight bar.
The 220th colour is used for the text of the highlighted scenario.
The 20th colour is used for the heading "Select a Scenario".

The text on the map uses "Windows Colours". The 20 windows colours look like this:

These aren't shown in the standard palette but using any of the last 20 pink colours on the palette will produce a windows colour, so these colours are "fixed" and the palette positions can't be used for any other colour.
Making a ListMap.
To make a list map for a new battle you can either use the standard palette by pasting a map into each of listmap.pcx and listmap2.pcx and hope the palette will be able to cope with the colours on the new map, or use a new palette. To make a new palette I suggest you have the map, the buttons and any background pictures as a high colour graphic (but the buttons need not be on the final listmap). Reduce the number of colours to 256 with an option to include the windows colours selected (Paint Shop Pro can do this). Edit the palette so that non-windows colours used are moved to palette positions that are not in the windows area used by SMA and edit the windows colour area to match SMA (or leave it if you are confident no windows colours are being used). Eliminate one colour for which there is a close substitute and put an unused colour in position 1 to be the background colour. Save the palette and load it into your high colour graphic. Also load the palette into the button files. Check that this does not produce any of the background colour where it should not be.
Exchange the 9th, 20th & 220th with some other colour in the palette to get suitable colours for text etc if necessary.

The button files are:
CSA USA
PickCancel.pcx PickCancelU.pcx
PickInfo.pcx PickInfoU.pcx
PickOptions.pcx PickOptionsU.pcx
PickPlay.pcx PickPlayU.pcx
The button files contain 2 images, one as the default and the other for when the mouse cursor is over the button. Various methods can be used to give a different look to each version. If a background area is used, the foreground area of the mouse-over-version should not go outside the corresponding area of the default as this does not disappear when the mouse cursor is removed.
The troop icons used come from:
ScenArrows1.pcx
ScenArrows2.pcx
ScenArrows3.pcx
ScenArrows4.pcx
The codes used in the .scn are:
d - defending line 3rd row of ScenArrowsX.pcx
r - retreat 2nd row of ScenArrowsX.pcx
any other letter - attacking arrow 1st row of ScenArrowsX.pcx
The size of the arrow (only for attacking or retreat arrows)
0 - small (e.g. advance - brigade) ScenArrows1.pcx
1 - same as 0 ScenArrows2.pcx
2 - medium (e.g. attack - division) ScenArrows3.pcx
3 - large (e.g. assault - division/corps) ScenArrows4.pcx
The standard set of icons look like they were made in solid hi-colours and then the graphics program applied "dithering" when the 256 colour palette was used. You can either load your new palette into the ScenArrowsX.pcx files or use a set that only uses windows colours. I have made a new set that includes some extra icons. The 1st columns of these look like this:

As they use only Windows colours except for the background colour they can be used with any ListMap regardless of its palette.
The 4 new ScenArrowsX.pcx files are here.
